How to Save Money on My Air Conditioning Bill
This is Craig Tuffelmire, owner of TEX-PERTS Cooling & Heating in San Antonio. I’m here to talk to you about saving money on your air conditioning and heating bills. Most importantly, it would be good to get on a maintenance plan where you have a technician come out during the spring and fall tuneups so that they can prevent unwanted repairs later and make sure the system is operating at its full capacity and energy efficiency rating. If you have a problem, they can repair that before it gets to be more costly later on. Other tips include making sure that you have a programmable thermostat – something that will adjust the temperature accordingly – and that you leave alone. The more often you turn your system on and off, the more money that you use. A lot of times, people turn it off during the day, and when they get home, they drop it by four degrees or more, which actually ends up costing you more money than if you had just let it run during the day.
Changing and cleaning your filters on a regular basis, I would recommend once a month for most filters. Whenever you get your utility bill is a good time for a weekly reminder. If you have filters that last longer than that, and it’s tied into your maintenance plan, then you will never have to worry about changing them yourself. Your technician will go ahead and change them as part of the service.
